About your tuition and your tutors
Our priority is to ensure the tuition you receive on your painting holiday gives you the confidence and skills you require to enhance and develop your creativity. For this reason our tuition is informal, relaxed and allows for one to one instruction.

At ‘Art In Spain’ painting holidays we believe that personal attention given to individuals is important and significantly helps develop confidence for some. The tuition is set at each persons own level of ability, allowing for beginners as well as the more accomplished artist.

For beginners there is the opportunity to learn the basic knowledge and skills needed before you start painting.

Whether you work in oils, watercolours, acrylics or collage, new skills, techniques and handy tips can be learned quickly with effective tuition. You will return from one of our painting holidays not only with better work, but with new skills and ideas you can develop further when you return home.

You will have the opportunity to learn more about art materials and their uses, which surfaces to use, tips for oils, acrylics, watercolours; deciding what subjects to paint and what scale to use.

The quality of the light in Spain is rich and intense and colour is strong and clear. There are numerous sources of inspiration for your painting. As you only have a short time to take all this in, we provide plenty of opportunity at each location, to take photographic records for reference for you to work on when you get home.

All of the tuition and painting sessions are done either at the artist‘s studio, or with the opportunity to paint or sketch when we go out on locations around the Costa Blanca or in the cave village of Galera in Andalucia.

Your Tutors Rita J.Hee & TJ Miles:

Rita J. Hee
was born in Denmark in 1954. After finishing school, she completed several qualifications relating to the world of finance.

During the 1980s Rita J. Hee moved to Norway, and after nearly twenty years in a busy working environment she moved to Spain in 2001, to live a more relaxed life.

In Spain Rita started as a student with a well known Norwegian painter. In the beginning she painted traditional landscapes and still lifes etc. but very soon it was collage which became her greatest interest. She develops new techniques and uses a lot of different materials in her paintings.

Rita J. Hee has had several exhibitions in Spain, and her paintings are found in collections throughout Europe. Today, Rita J. Hee has her own gallery a little north of Torrevieja, where she paints and offers several different courses for her students.
The tutors will be providing your tuition on your holiday, working either separately or together on each day. This allows for a broader range of skills, experience and techniques to be passed on to you.

TJ Miles was born in Co. Antrim, Northern Ireland in 1965. He studied art until he left school at 16 to begin his working life.
TJ turned back to art about 14 years ago to fulfil a need to record experiences living in Northern Ireland. Originally working in watercolours, then progressing to acrylics for more flexibility to mould with his imagination.

TJ's passions for travel and art have been constant companions for many years. His art fuses elements of European surrealism with aspects of Irish figuratism and the viewer may readily discern the influences of Dali, De Chirico, Magritte and Markey in his work.

TJ commutes between his homes and studios in Ireland and Spain and his 'Mediterranean' palette brings warmth to the quiet places he so joyously celebrates.

He now also writes a weekly arts column for a Costa Blanca newspaper, and various monthly articles for magazines on the ex-pat life in Spain as an artist. Limited edition prints of his work are readily available in many gift shops and stores worldwide, while his original paintings are now in private collections in Ireland, UK, France, Germany, The Netherlands, Italy, Spain, Sweden, Serbia, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong, Japan, Canada, Mexico and the USA, as well as corporate and public collections in Europe.
